The latest issue of the BTRi Newsletter (May 2026) is now available
The Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) is delighted to publish the 2nd issue of the BTRi Newsletter (May 2026). As Hong Kong's dedicated institute for promoting construction innovation, BTRi remains committed to advancing the adoption of innovation, elevating standards, and building trust through accreditation and certification. This edition offers a comprehensive look at the milestones BTRi has achieved together with the government, industry, and academic partners.
Highlights of this edition include:
• Cover Story — BTRi’s Construction Product Accreditation Scheme (CPAS) continues to serve as a "Fast Pass" into Hong Kong's construction industry, with its first successful application in a major public works project under the Drainage Services Department.
• Applied R&D Breakthroughs — From Low-density Engineered Cementitious Composite (LD-ECC) reducing construction periods by approximately 50%, to Remote Control Tower Crane Systems, blockchain-enabled MiC supervision, and a strategic AI roadmap now shaping government policy.
• Standards Leadership — Hong Kong's first-ever Technical Guidelines and Particular Specification for structural use of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), GBA Standards for Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and High-Strength Steel Structures, and an AI-powered benchmarking study for construction materials.
• Global Reach — Through the Modular Integrated Construction Manufacturer Accreditation Scheme (MiC-MAS), BTRi enables Hong Kong's advanced construction technologies to connect with international markets, including the Middle East and Australia.
