Media Coverage | BTRi Drives Adoption of High-Quality Building Materials and Innovative Construction Technologies to Enhance Speed, Efficiency and Quality in Construction
Sing Tao Daily today published an in-depth feature exploring how the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) is empowering the construction industry to overcome longstanding barriers to adopting innovative technologies, driving enhancements in speed, efficiency, and quality across construction projects.
Through multiple real-world cases, the article demonstrates how BTRi actively bridges the gap between innovation and real-world application through its accreditation schemes, standard advancement and pilot projects:
Accelerating product accreditation: The Construction Product Accreditation Scheme (CPAS) has significantly streamlined material approval procedures, resolving the three key pain points - difficulty in securing first-use precedents, complex approval processes, and inconsistent requirements - enabling multiple quality building products to be adopted more rapidly in Hong Kong.
Quality certification: The Modular Integrated Construction Manufacturer Accreditation Scheme (MiC-MAS) has now accredited eight manufacturers, supporting them in gaining recognition in international markets.
Driving industry standards: BTRi has assisted in formulating Greater Bay Area high-strength steel structural design standards, enabling more efficient building and bridge design and reducing construction processes.
Advancing smart construction: BTRi has developed General Technical Specifications for Remote-Control Tower Crane System, improving lifting efficiency by at least 10%; it has also facilitated the adoption of the E-inspection System to rigorously ensure quality and safety assurance for construction works.
BTRi will continue to proactively respond to industry needs, facilitating the practical application of more innovative building products and technologies, and leading Hong Kong’s construction industry toward high-performing development.
