Review of Concrete Elastic Modulus and Design Compressive Strength in Local Concrete Standards
Project Overview:
The Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) is conducting a comprehensive study to review the design values for concrete compressive strength and elastic modulus specified in the local Concrete Standards. This initiative aims to ensure that the adopted design parameters accurately reflect the latest performance characteristics of modern concrete materials, taking into account advancements in material technology, production processes, and quality control practices. The study also examines the consistency of local provisions with relevant GB standards and internationally recognised design codes, with the objective of enhancing technical alignment and reliability in structural design practice.
With the support of the Hong Kong Construction Materials Association (HKCMA), BTRi has collected an extensive number of standard concrete cube and cylinder specimens from local suppliers. Encompassing the full spectrum of concrete grades, these specimens are undergoing rigorous testing to accurately evaluate their compressive strength and elastic properties in accordance with local standards.
