“Workshop on Greater Bay Area (GBA) Standard for Structural Design of High Strength Steel Structures” co-organised by BTRi, PolyU & CNERC
On 27 February 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Chinese National Engineering Research Centre For Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch) co-organised a local workshop, with the aim of advancing the collaborative development of structural design for high strength steel structures across the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). The session focused on the core provisions and objectives of the GBA design standard and explored practical strategies for its effective implementation and wider promotion.
The workshop brought together representatives from government departments, local construction industry stakeholders, and the academics. The insights gathered and professional exchange during the discussion will support the ongoing refinement of the standard. They will also help drive the application and development of high strength steel materials in Hong Kong and the GBA—marking an important step towards expanding into international markets.
