Shenzhen and Hong Kong Join Hands in Exploring Standards

19 September 2025

On September 19, 2025, the Shenzhen Construction Engineering Standards Institute (SCES) led a delegation of leaders and experts from 13 member organizations to visit the Hong Kong Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi). Both parties held in-depth discussions on key topics, including the development of construction standards systems, advancing standardisation collaboration across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and the soon-to-be-launched Construction Product Approval Scheme (CPAS) by BTRi. Delegates shared practical case studies and exchanged experiences in standard formulation, implementation, and updates, with a particular focus on standardization and technical collaboration in the Greater Bay Area's construction sector.

Following the discussions, BTRi organised a site visit for the delegation to the High West Site Development project at the University of Hong Kong. This allowed them to explore the latest applications of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) technology. Additionally, the delegation visited the Fanling North pedestrian bridge project, overseen by the Civil Engineering and Development Department, where they observed the use of high-strength steel and robotic welding techniques. These field studies provided the delegation with valuable insights into Hong Kong's achievements and experiences in advancing construction standards and applying cutting-edge technologies.

This Shenzhen-Hong Kong exchange not only established a platform for communication in the field of construction standards but also fostered mutual learning and idea sharing. It holds significant importance for promoting integration and development within the Greater Bay Area's construction industry. Moving forward, both sides will continue to collaborate in driving the Greater Bay Area to become a leader in the innovative application of advanced construction technologies, injecting fresh momentum into the region’s high-quality development of the construction industry.
