Setting the Standards for Construction Robots: BTRi Conducts Specification Workshop on Welding Robots
On 3 November 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), co-organised a workshop on the Technical Specification for Construction Welding Robots, which is under development.
During the workshop, participants from government, industry, academia, professional bodies and trade associations exchanged views on the framework of the specification and the practical considerations for scaling up deployment of welding robots. Their input helps BTRi refine baseline requirements and safety benchmarks that reflect on-site realities, paving the way for these robots to move beyond trial projects and into mainstream construction practice.
Insights gathered from the series of workshops on construction robots, including Painting, Putting Spraying and Grinding Robots, Drilling Robots, and Welding Robots, will shape a suite of construction robots' technical specifications to be launched soon. The initiative reaffirms BTRi’s leading role in accelerating the adoption of construction robots, unlocking new potential for higher productivity, safer work sites and the sustained transformation of the industry. Looking ahead, BTRi remains committed to nurturing a thriving advanced construction ecosystem in Hong Kong and beyond.
