Setting the Standards for Construction Robotics: BTRi Conducts Specification Workshops on Painting and Drilling Robots
On 12 October 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi), the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) co-organised workshops on two technical specifications under development: Painting, Putty Spraying and Grinding Robots, and Drilling Robot.
The workshops brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, professional bodies, and trade associations to discuss the structure of the specifications and the steps needed to support wider adoption of these technologies.
Through this collaboration, BTRi is establishing baseline requirements and safety standards that align technical development with real-world industry needs, helping advance these technologies from pilot applications to wider industry use.
This industry engagement will inform the forthcoming launch of a series of technical specifications for construction robotics. It also underscores BTRi’s strategic role in advancing construction robotics, creating significant opportunities to boost productivity, enhance site safety, and drive the industry’s long-term transformation. BTRi aspires to foster a robust advanced construction ecosystem in Hong Kong and beyond.
