BTRi participates in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Construction Robotic Competition 2026 to support the accelerated adoption of construction robotics technologies
On 29 September 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) participated in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Construction Robotic Competition 2026, organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC), to promote the exchange of innovative achievements in smart construction across the industry. The Hong Kong leg of the competition attracted more than 20 companies, with a total of over 30 types of construction robots taking part, covering a range of key construction processes, including drilling, welding, material handling, paint spraying, drone inspection and remote-controlled tower crane systems. The innovative technologies demonstrated robotics' potential to enhance construction safety, efficiency and productivity.
Ar Fong Chi-hang, Colin, Section Head (Accreditation, Certification and Testing) of BTRi, was invited to serve as a judge of the competition. Alongside representatives from the Government and the industry, he assessed outstanding entries and offered professional advice on the application of construction robotics technologies. As a key platform for advancing innovation and high-quality development in the construction industry, BTRi is committed to driving the practical adoption of construction robotics through the formulation of technical guidelines, as well as testing and standards certification.
Looking ahead, BTRi will continue to connect the Government, the industry and research institutions to establish a “Hong Kong Brand” innovative construction technology certification system for innovative construction technologies, fostering the smart transformation of the construction industry in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
