BTRi welcomes the 2026–27 Budget – Supports for Professional Development of Construction Industry and Reduction of Construction Costs
Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) welcomes the 2026–27 Budget announced by the Financial Secretary. The Budget sets out a range of measures to support the professional development of the construction industry and reduce construction costs, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of the construction industry in Hong Kong.
Ir Hon Chi‑keung, Chairperson of BTRi, expresses welcome to the Budget. “We are pleased that the Budget has earmarked resources to support BTRi in conducting studies on driving applied research and development (R&D) and strengthening construction cost control, including reviewing construction standards and exploring artificial intelligence (AI) applications. BTRi will continue to uplift existing construction standards, develop new standards for innovative materials, and promote the wider adoption of innovative materials and technologies across the industry to improve cost-effectiveness. Meanwhile, we will explore the application of AI in construction projects to facilitate the integration of AI with the construction sector, thereby empowering the industry.”
Staying focused on driving applied R&D, reviewing and uplifting standards, BTRi will make prudent use of the resources with a view to underpinning Hong Kong’s future infrastructure development.
