BTRi Welcomes MOHURD for Strategic Exchange on High-Quality Development of the Construction Industry

30 March 2026

On 24 March 2026, Mr YAO Tian-wei, Director General of the Department of Standard and Norms of the Ministry of Housing and Urban‑Rural Development (MOHURD), and his delegation visited the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) for a professional exchange.

During the meeting, Director-General YAO and BTRi engaged in in-depth discussions regarding their respective work directions and development goals. Mr YAO spoke highly of BTRi’s efforts across its three core domains: driving applied R&D, elevating industry standards, and Certification, Accreditation & Testing. Regarding applied R&D, he commended BTRi for actively driving the practical implementation of new technologies and materials, particularly in the fields of artificial intelligence and construction robotics. By empowering the traditional construction sector through technology to achieve quality enhancement and industrial upgrading, these initiatives perfectly align with the high-quality development strategy outlined in the National 15th Five-Year Plan.

Mr YAO also highly praised BTRi for actively integrating into the overall national development framework by collaborating closely with relevant Mainland authorities to jointly advance the formulation of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Standards. He noted that these efforts perfectly capitalize on Hong Kong's unique position of enjoying strong support from the Motherland and being closely connected to the world. By establishing a high-standard GBA system that aligns with international benchmarks, BTRi is actively propelling national standards onto the global stage, making a significant Hong Kong contribution to the 'Going Global' of China's construction technologies and standards.

Looking ahead, BTRi will fully leverage the insights gained from this exchange to continuously improve construction standards and promote high-quality growth across the industry.
