BTRi Presents Hong Kong’s First Structural Application of UHPC at CICE 2026 in Guangzhou

From 18 to 20 September 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) participated in the 2026 China Concrete & Cement-based Products Industry Convention (2026混凝土與水泥製品行業大會, hereafter referred to as the Convention) and China International Concrete Expo (CICE) 2026 (中國（國際）混凝土博覽會, hereafter referred to as the Expo) in Guangzhou, which is the industry’s foremost platform for advanced cementitious materials and bring together leading industry players from nearly 30 countries, convened by the China Concrete & Cement-based Products Association (CCPA) (中國混凝土與水泥製品協會). 

At the Forum on Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) Materials and Applications, BTRi delivered a joint presentation with the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and AtkinsRéalis on one of Hong Kong’s pioneering structural applications of UHPC. The presentation outlined the broader context of the Northern Metropolis development and introduced the pilot project on the use of UHPC. It also detailed the key highlights of Hong Kong’s Technical Guidelines and Particular Specification for Structural Use of UHPC, which are jointly published by CEDD and BTRi, as well as the experience gained on UHPC applications.  

The Convention and Expo also gathered leading representatives from industry and academics with expertise in advanced concrete technologies, such as UHPC, engineered cementitious composites (ECC), lightweight concrete, concrete mixing equipment, fibres and fibre-related products, admixtures, coating materials and 3D printing. The event enabled technical exchange with top-tier material suppliers, researchers, and technical experts, paving the way for future collaborations to drive the adoption of advanced concrete technologies in Hong Kong.
