BTRi Convenes Inaugural Meeting of the Construction Innovation Task Force

On 15 September 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) hosted the Inaugural Meeting of the Construction Innovation Task Force, uniting leaders from across Hong Kong’s built environment sector to shape the future of construction. 

Reflecting BTRi’s vision to strengthen Hong Kong’s leading position in infrastructure and urban development, the Task Force brings together forward-thinking organisations — including the Airport Authority Hong Kong, Hong Kong Housing Society, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park, Hospital Authority, MTR Corporation, Real Estate Developers Association and Urban Renewal Authority  — around a shared commitment to construction innovation. 

The Task Force is driven by a clear mandate: to advance the adoption of innovative technologies across public works, infrastructure, and non-government projects. It champions best practices and proven use cases, evaluates emerging solutions for their potential to deliver a range of benefits—cost savings, sustainability gains, and greater operational efficiency—and helps shape the standards, policies, and trends that will define innovation across the Greater Bay Area. Underpinning all of this is a single purpose—to serve as a collaborative platform where industry challenges are matched with the technological solutions best equipped to address them. 

Together, we are spearheading construction innovation for a high-performing industry and a sustainable built environment.

A highlight was an industry sharing session by Professor Wilson Lu of Hong Kong University, on adopting a Blockchain E-System for MiC projects, which showcases how applied research is transforming delivery.
