BTRi Member Delegation Strengthens Regional Ties with Malaysia’s Construction Industry

On 15 May 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) member delegation had an exchange session with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) group, including CIDB Digital Sdn. Bhd, CIDB IBS Sdn. Bhd., and the Construction Research Institute of Malaysia (CREAM).

The exchange session covered several key topics in construction industry strategic development, including digitisation, the Industrialised Building System (IBS), innovation advancement, and testing and certification. Leveraging Hong Kong's experience in innovation advancement, particularly its proven track record in Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), both parties are keen to sustain this dialogue and explore future knowledge-sharing and potential collaboration to support IBS development in Malaysia.

Concluding the trip, the member delegation visited the Kuala Langat Bridge, an Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) composite bridge featuring a 105-metre navigation span. Recognised with first place in the bridges category of the ACI Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards 2024, the project provided the delegation with profound insights into the practical application of UHPC in large-scale infrastructure. This site visit also allowed the delegation to witness firsthand the structural efficiency and design innovation the material delivers in real-world applications.
