BTRi-Led Delegation Embarks on Executive Visit to Explore Malaysia’s Digital Construction and Advanced Technologies
The Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) led a member delegation to Malaysia from 12 to 15 May for a series of knowledge exchange and networking activities, bringing together around 20 senior representatives from 13 organisations spanning Hong Kong's government, academia, and industry.
On the first day (13 May), the delegation took a deep dive into digitalisation and prefabrication. The delegation visited the Gamuda IBS factory, gaining first-hand insight into an end-to-end Industrialised Building System (IBS) that integrates automation and robotic prefabrication, which is precise, highly flexible in offering customised products, and highly traceable to ensure quality assurance. The visit also highlighted Gamuda’s commitment to sustainability through the use of green rebar and concrete. At the Gamuda Innovation Hub (GAIN), delegates explored the digital and AI solutions across different mega-infrastructure projects that underpin Gamuda’s project delivery, such as Building Information Modelling Augmented Reality (BIMAR) and Autonomous Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). The day concluded with a productive technical exchange with Asia Infrastructure Solutions (AIS), covering Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and data centre construction excellence via modular Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems, as well as AI-driven applications in safety and infrastructure inspection.
This visit forms part of the BTRi’s ongoing efforts to facilitate cross-border knowledge exchange on prefabricated construction and digitalisation, catalysing cooperation opportunities between Hong Kong and Malaysia for the benefit of the industry’s future.
Member delegation including: Development Bureau, Highways Department, Civil Engineering and Development Department, AECOM Asia Company Limited, Aluhouse, Asia Infrastructure Solutions, AtkinsRéalis Asia Limited, Buildwave Innovation Limited, CARES Hong Kong Limited, Mannings (Asia) Consultants Limited, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Wilson & Associates Limited.
