Advancing Structural Innovation: BTRi and IStructE Explore Collaboration on New Materials, Standards Advancement and Sustainability
On 19 June 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) held a meeting with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) to exchange views on the latest developments in construction materials innovation and identify potential collaboration opportunities in advancing standards as well as sustainability across the construction industry.
The discussion centered on shared interests in new materials and sustainable construction practices, with a particular focus on embodied carbon — a critical frontier in decarbonising the built environment. Both parties also exchanged perspectives on the role of MiC in supporting the development of construction industry and how the MiC supply chain can be further strengthened via strategic collaboration.
BTRi remains committed to forging partnerships with leading professional institutions to advance practical, evidence-based solutions that support the industry's transition toward a more sustainable and resilient future.
