Advancing Industry Standards: BTRi and HKUST Launch Technical Specification for Remote-Controlled Tower Crane Operation
Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi), in collaboration with The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), first published the Technical Specification for Remote-Controlled Tower Crane Operation in May 2026. On 8 July 2026, BTRi and HKUST hosted the Remote-Controlled Tower Crane System (RCTCS) Seminar to mark the official launch of the technical specification and share the latest research findings on the performance of remote-controlled tower cranes.Besides, government departments including the Architectural Services Department (ASD), the Drainage Services Department (DSD) and the Housing Department (HD) were invited to share their project experience.
During the second session of the event, the Hong Kong Tower Crane Association (HKTCA), contractors and solution vendors shared their practical experience in implementing RCTCS and their vision for its future development.
The seminar received strong support from the construction industry. More than 180 participants registered for the event, with representatives from 25 supporting organisations attending in person.
BTRi remains committed to collaborating closely with government departments, academic institutions and the construction industry to advance the development and wider adoption of RCTCS, thereby supporting the intelligent transformation of the construction industry.
