Project Overview:

The project, commissioned by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) and conducted by the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) with support from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), aims to evaluate the feasibility and performance of using Biochar and Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag (GGBS) as solidification or stabilization materials for the remediation of land contaminated by heavy metals and hydrocarbon chemicals.

Key Achievement: 

To formulate a green and cost-effective method for the remediation of land contaminated with heavy metals and hydrocarbon chemicals using Biochar and GGBS.
