BTRi and EPD Explore Deeper Collaboration on Innovation and Sustainable Development

29 April 2026

On 29 April 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) held a meeting with the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) to exchange views on the latest developments in construction innovation and identify potential areas of collaboration in advancing the sustainable built environment.

The exchange was jointly hosted by Dr. Samuel Chui, Director of Environmental Protection and Ir. Alfred Wong, Chief Executive Officer of BTRi. During the meeting, BTRi outlined its key strategic initiatives in driving innovation in the construction industry and presented its ongoing studies related to green and sustainable construction. Both parties engaged in in depth discussions on scaling up the beneficial use of waste materials in construction applications. In addition, BTRi and EPD exchanged insights and experiences on initiatives related to standards development, digital platforms and artificial intelligence applications. Both sides expressed strong appreciation for each other’s commitment in advancing innovation and sustainable development across the construction industry.

Looking ahead, BTRi aims to further strengthen its collaboration with EPD and its Belt and Road Sustainable Green Development Training Centre to accelerate the adoption of green construction technologies and materials, enhance industry capability building, and scale up the implementation of sustainable solutions in Hong Kong and beyond. The meeting laid a strong foundation for continued and closer collaboration among the parties.
