GBA Standards
Development of Greater Bay Area (GBA) Standard for Structural Design of High-Strength Steel Structures (S690 to S960)
Commissioned By:
Project Overview:
Commissioned by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) collaborates with the Chinese National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) to develop the GBA Standard for high-strength steel (S690-S960). The standard is developed with reference to European standards and Chinese national standards, covering buildings and bridges while addressing typhoon winds, moderate seismicity, and promoting efficient use of high-strength steel in support of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Key Achievement:
Delivers an internationally aligned design standard that enhances the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of steel structures in the GBA, while promoting collaboration within the GBA and the wider application of high-strength steel.
