BTRi’s Workshop on Technical Guidelines for Robotic Welding Operations of Structural Steel in Construction

On 30 March 2026, the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi), in collaboration with the Civil Engineering and Development Department, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch) convened a Workshop on the Technical Guidelines for Robotic Welding Operations of Structural Steel in Construction. The discussions focused on the draft of the Technical Guidelines, as well as driving broader uptake across construction sites. 

Drawing wide-ranging participation from government authorities, prominent construction industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and professional associations, the workshop served as a platform for substantive dialogue and cross-sector alignment. The depth of expertise brought to the table will be pivotal in refining the guidelines that elevates safety, quality, and efficiency in robotic welding operations, laying the groundwork for a thriving advanced construction technologies and adoption of Highly-Effective Construction Robots.
