BTRi Marks Milestone with Technical Guidelines at the S960 Footbridge Opening Ceremony
On 18 April 2026, Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) was honoured to attend the Opening Ceremony of the S960 Footbridge at the Lung Yeuk Tau Interchange, Northern Metropolis, as an officiating guest and to participate in the launch of Technical Guidelines that will support the next chapter of infrastructure development in Hong Kong.
A key highlight was the launch of the Technical Guidelines for Robotic Welding Operations of Structural Steel in Construction (TG) , a joint publication by the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction (Hong Kong Branch), and BTRi. Drawing on the collaborative efforts, this TG provides practical technical guidance and standardised protocols for the industry on the operation of welding robots, thereby enhancing efficiency, quality, and reliability. This milestone marks another step forward in BTRi's ongoing commitment to advancing construction technology and industry standards in Hong Kong.
