BTRi at the GBA Construction Technology Innovation Forum: Fostering AI and Digital Intelligence in the Built Environment
On 20 March 2026, representatives of the Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) attended the “Digital Intelligence Empowering Construction Technology Innovation in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area” Forum held in Shenzhen, and witnessed the official unveiling of the Greater Bay Area Headquarters of the China Academy of Building Research.
With the Greater Bay Area advancing into a new phase of development, digital intelligence, safety and resilience, and green and low-carbon practices have become the core drivers of high-quality urban development. Ir Yip Chi-wang, Johnny, Section Head (Standards Advancement) of BTRi, delivered a presentation at the forum titled “Challenges and Practices of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Innovative Technologies in the Construction Industry”. Drawing on real project applications, he highlighted the use of AI and construction robotics, and outlined how policy direction, industry standards and supporting mechanisms can work together to enable effective and scalable implementation.
As a key driver of construction technology development in Hong Kong, BTRi is committed to cross-regional technical collaboration, sharing its strategies and practical experience in driving the adoption of advanced technologies. It also illustrates how collaborative platforms can facilitate technology validation, adoption and sector-wide collaboration. Looking ahead, BTRi will continue to play a bridging and leading role, working closely with the industry to foster coordinated growth of the construction sector in the Greater Bay Area.
