The Building Technology Research Institute (BTRi) successfully hosted the first BTRi Conference 2025, with the theme “Elevating to New Heights: Leading Construction Innovation in the New Era” on 2 June 2025. The Conference brought together approximately 250 participants from government, universities and industry to foster collaboration on construction innovation.
In the conference, over 60 organizations have joined the Construction Innovation Charter Ceremony and committed to form an unprecedented alliance of academic, government and industry for driving construction innovation with BTRi.
The Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), Mr Ricky LAU, in his opening speech highlighted BTRi’s exceptional growth and achievements during its first ten months since its establishment. Mr Ricky Lau particularly emphasized BTRi’s unique advantages in uniting the construction industry to promote construction innovation.
Ir HON Chi-keung, Chairperson of BTRi delivered a keynote presentation at the Conference said: “With strong Government support, we are committed to achieving the vision – to be the Greater Bay Area and international pioneer for construction innovation and a recognised authority in the construction industry.” Chairperson also announced the launch of the Construction Materials Certification Scheme (CMCS), BTRi Innovation Partner Programme, and BTRi Membership Scheme.
In the panel discussions, ten prominent leaders from government, academia and industry were engaged in insightful dialogues and shared their valuable views on two key topics: “BTRi as the Catalyst to Promote Construction Innovation and Address Industry Challenges” and “From Hong Kong to GBA and the World: Strengthening Our Role as an International Leader in Construction Innovation”.
In the future, BTRi will continue to integrate the strengths of the public and private sectors to accelerate the adoption of innovation in the construction industry, elevating industry performance and positioning Hong Kong as a global pioneer in construction innovation.
